I just picked up a new CD this weekend and was it ever great!

Ray Sings Basie Swings

It’s a remix of an old Ray Charles recording from the mid-1970’s with a new recording of the Count Basie Orchestra. It seems the band on the old recording could hardly be heard, but Ray’s voice was loud and clear. so Concord records commissioned artists to create arrangements and the Count Basie Orchestra to play for Ray Charles’ voice.

So you think, just another concept album. But this is a fabulous recording. It is hard to believe that all these people were not swinging in a concert hall together.

I got my copy at Starbuck’s coffee. I’m sure it’s readily available.
